How to Proof

In order to avoid confusion and social faux-pas (perish the thought!), it is critical that you proofread your invitations several times until you are confident that all of the information is correct. Proofing your event information to ensure that is complete and contains no errors will help to avoid guest confusion and additional costs caused by missing or inaccurate information.

Here are some tips to help you proof your invitation suite. Make sure you proof not only your invitation, but also your RSVP, additional enclosures etc.:

TIP: Proof from a printed source
If you have received a full physical sample of your invite, you should always proof from your printed invitation. If you received only a digital proof, it’s best to print your invitation and accessories and proofread a hard copy rather than relying on the on-screen version.

Read your invitation aloud
Proofread all parts of your invitation suite by reading it out loud. If possible, have another person listen and read along while you read it out. This method is a good way to catch missing words or doubled words, as well as general grammar issues.

Read everything backwards
Read everything backwards focusing on the words themselves. It may sound strange, but this is a powerful tool for finding spelling errors, as sometimes your mind will subconsciously fix errors making it appear as though everything is correct when it really isn’t. In this case, familiarity breeds mistakes, so taking time to concentrate on each word out of context will make your proofing that much more effective.

Check names
Check the spelling of all names on the invitation (including parents, children etc.). You would be surprised at the errors you might find!

Check addresses, dates and numbers
Check all dates and numbers carefully. This includes things like making sure dates are correct, day and date match, addresses are complete and correct (especially street numbers if included) and also checking telephone numbers etc. Having guests arrive on the wrong day or at the wrong location is an unfortunate consequence of these types of errors, and it happened to me at my own bridal shower!

Check response methods and additional information
Check to ensure your RSVP information is correct, along with information like website addresses etc. Make sure to proofread any cards with additional information as well (accommodation cards, itinerary cards etc.).

Check the overall invitation layout, graphics etc.
It’s important that you make sure the details of your invitation are accurate; but, it is also very important to proof the entire invitation for errors in colour, spacing, fonts etc.

Find a proofreading partner (or two, or three)!
Once you have proofread the invitation a few times, have someone else proofread it as well. It is easy to overlook a mistake on your invitation when you know what the invitation should say. Have a few people who aren’t familiar with all the details (co-workers, neighbours, friends) go over your invite for an unbiased review.

As a designer, I think one of the main issues is that clients can often forget that we don’t know the details of their event as intimately as they do, and unfortunately proofreading isn’t part of the service. I can’t say that I don’t “read” your invite, but I don’t know how to spell your father’s first name correctly or what time you’ve decided to start cocktail hour, so that means the responsibility of proofing has to rest completely with *you*.

Don’t be a statistic. You know, I’m only telling you this because I care. Friends don’t let friends make errors on their invitations

Pink Ribbon Fund

We have designed a bra for the 2009 Pink Annual Gala Dinner and Silent Auction! The bras will be auctioned off in the silent auction as art. The Pink Ribbon fund will help the Pine Belt breast cancer patients. Wow, long time no post! Please excuse my absence. December has always been a very busy month for us at FPC and this year was no different. Between hosting wrap classes, designing Christmas Cards, and helping Santa wrap all of his presents, these little elves were BUSY! I have so much to share with all of you, I do not know where to start. During all of the holiday excitement, I failed to post that we have added a new member to our team! However, I feel as if she deserves a post of her own, so stay tuned...

I can already tell that 2009 will be a fabulous and exciting year for Forrest Paper! We have so many new things up our sleeves, including a website makeover and the introduction of the Forrest Bridal blog! Please be sure to check back often, I promise to be a better blogger from now on. ;)

Wrap Classes have begun!

Well, it's that time of year again! Can you believe it?

There is not a day that goes by that we do not get asked questions about how we make our beautiful bows. So with the holiday season just around the corner, we are very excited to share with you our wrap class schedules!

The registration fee for each person is $10.00. This fee includes all of your supplies; wrapping paper, ribbon, trim, and lots of fun! We will supply an empty box for you to use, however, if you call and let us know ahead of time, you can bring a your own gift to wrap!

Most of the classes on our schedule are held at 10:30 a.m. However, if you call ahead of time and have 8 or more people, we would be more than happy to schedule a night class for you.

Our Wrap Classes are such a huge hit and so much fun. In fact, we have had many of our "students" come back year after year and invite their friends to come along. You are welcome to bring food and drinks, or even a bottle of wine, and make it a party! This is the perfect opportunity to gather with girlfriends, coworkers, and other social groups, and learn how to wrap the perfect gift at the same time!

That's right! We are gearing up for our THIRD year at Mistletoe Marketplace in Jackson, MS, and we cannot wait! Cheryl and I had the best time picking out all of the different wrapping paper for this Christmas season. We cannot wait to share with you all of the fabulous wrapping paper we have chosen! I do believe this is our best selection yet!

Sweet Keri has been rolling her little fingers off getting us ready for the big weekend. It's no wonder we call her the MVE (most valuable employee)! Keri, you are AMAZING!!!!!!!

That's a lot of wrapping paper! Hope those chairs do not collapse before we put the cello around them! (Just kidding Keri! I think I would cry with you.)

One Year Anniversary!

Over the years, we have created a special bond with many of our brides and grooms. So, when Gypsy and Michael came to us to create a birth announcement for their first child, we were more than thrilled. It is spring time here at Forrest Paper, well actually it is summer now, but I could not resist sharing with you some of our precious little ones that we had the privilege to help announce recently. We have had so much fun working with these new mommies and meeting their little ones. Looking at these babies pictures and creating their announcements is so exciting. It's a tough job, but someones got to do it, right? This does not help me with my baby fever. Have I told you how much I LOVE my job? Welcome little ones! We wish you all the happiness in the world!

Although Baby boy Arrington has not yet made his debut, we were asked to design an invitation for his baby shower! There are so many people are anxiously awaiting his arrival and very eager to shower the mommy to be with presents for him! We cannot wait 'til "Labor Day! "

Once upon a time in a kingdom not to far away, Princes Gracelyn Alexis was turning One! A royal celebration indeed! Not a detail went untouched. Inside the pocket, was a sephia tone picture of Gracelyn with an actual pink grosgrain bow in her hair. The butterfly held a special meaning to the little birthday girl, it was placed in memory of a loved one. I must admit, working on this invitation was so much fun. What I would have given to have an invitation like this when I was growing up. Happy 1st Birthday Princess Gracelyn!

I have always been a fan of patterns and texture, which I guess why I like this invitation so much. I love the colors and the "reptile" print on the pocket. With an invitation this unique, it must have been hard to keep this party a secret, if I do say so myself!

Melinda is one of our recent brides. Her wedding took place at Southern Oaks House and Gardens here in Hattiesburg. Because it was an outside wedding we wanted to go for a nature feel. What better way than with our handmade Amate paper from Nepal! We tied it all together with a thin double face satin ribbon, and hand twisted cording. Congratulations Melinda and Brian.
